The Saloman XA's GTX are the only shoe that I have ever went back after 3 years of use and bought a new matching pair. They have to be the most comfortable shoes ever worn both on and off the trail. I can't say enough good about them. They are everything that Saloman advertises. The goretex does its job as long as I do not submerse my foot above the top of the shoe. The composite shank does not allow sharp rocks to push through to your foot. I do wish they had a vibram sole as this is the only thing that I wished lasted longer on my shoes. My old pair were getting pretty slippery on the rocks after the second season. At year three the quick laces finally snapped toward the toe. I just tied a knot around the eyelet and continued on.I highly recommend these to anyone who does the nature thing and also wants something light and comfortable to... The Salomon's have performed well, holding up to the light trail conditions that I typically run/walk on. The Gore XCR works well and have not had any problems with overheating. I got blisters at the back of my foot on the first day of use, which I attributed to the shoe insert that came with it. I removed it, wore a thicker socks, and I still developed more blisters. On close examination, I noticed that the parts of the shoes are stitched right at the middle of back of the shoes. I have never seen any other shoes, where the stitches occur right where the foot meets the shoe. Because of this, the edge of the shoe is a little stiff, causing the blister. I also noticed that there is not much of a cushion in that area, which is surprising considering the cost of the shoes. I am also displeased with the lacing system. It is actually impressive when you try it out (and one of the reasons I bought it) but when you use it for hours on a hike, it loosens a bit, so you need to constantly tighten it.
